The hatter

Radu Itu

I make hats the slow way — by hand, one at a time, and never the same one twice.

Each piece is built around the person who will wear it: their material, their colour, their details, their size. Nothing is made for a shelf, and nothing is repeated. Once a hat leaves the workshop, its shape belongs to its owner.

That's why there is no stock at The Wild Hatter. There is a conversation, a fitting, and a few solid hours of work.

“Each model is unique. The Wild Hatter doesn't make the same hat twice.”

The house rule

How a hat is made

Hours, not minutes.

  1. Wooden hat blocks lined up on shelves
    I.

    The block

Every shape begins on a wooden block — the crown, the height, the attitude.

  2. Radu steaming and shaping felt in the workshop
    II.

    Steam & shape

Felt is steamed, stretched and pulled over the block by hand until it holds.

  3. Vintage hat-making machinery on the workbench
    III.

    The bench

Brims are cut, edges finished and bands stitched — slowly, at the bench.

  4. Hands smoothing the brim of a finished hat
    IV.

    The details

Pins, chains, flowers, paint, fire. The last hours decide the character.
